Woman Dies After Being Forcibly Removed From Hospital

A woman who refused to leave a hospital when doctors discharged her died after she was forcibly removed by police, authorities said Tuesday.

Mallory said that the officer who arrested Dawson removed the handcuffs after she collapsed and escorted her back into the hospital.

"We were told by a doctor once she got back in the hospital that her vital signs were good and it was their decision to readmit her," he said. He said dashcam footage from the officer's car does not show the incident but does pick up the audio.

The Calhoun-Liberty County chapter of the NAACP held an emergency meeting on Tuesday. Dale R. Landry, who is the regional vice president for the Florida State chapter of the NAACP, met with local leaders and the family.

Landry said he and others are glad state law enforcement officers are getting involved, "but we strongly believe the death was due to negligence by the police department and hospital."

You live in a republican state you get what you deserve. Hope the family sues the hospital and the police for millions.

Being poor is awful would they kick out a rich women? Hope her family makes millions?

A rich women would pay so no. If people dont pay, you will not have a hospital to go to, so pick your poison.

Luke thejumpingsheep • 3 days ago
Same with with the justice system, you pay you walk like the affluenza kid. So exactly what poison are you advocating?

Kendall Powers thejumpingsheep • 3 days ago
You don't pay a hospital while you're there. Your complete and total ignorance of laws regarding hospital payments, and hospitals in general, should make you too ashamed to comment.

Gin1234 thejumpingsheep • 3 days ago
There are many who haven't been paying for years. Either medical assistance or a charity fund pay for their medical care. Nothing is any different now.

How many? And the Hypocritic oath says nothing about money.

Relax. I'm on your side.

No where in the article does it mention her financial status. So....what is it that leads everyone to assume she was indigent?

The fact her expensive lawyer wasn't there gives it away.

Having breathing problems can be really, really scary. When it happened to me, they let me sit in the ER & suck on a tube of flowing oxygen until I felt safe. Intellectually, I knew I was OK as soon as the staff said I was OK, but emotionally I was not able to leave that oxygen tube for an hour or two. Needed are the details of why the woman was forced to leave.

Ugh I blame the hospital for having her escorted to begin with. What the harm in having her just sit there until she felt comfortable to go? She could have even just sat in the waiting room.

thejumpingsheep jessjess • 3 days ago
Im guessing she was there a very long time taking up a room and doctor time. They wouldnt stop you from sitting in a waiting room.

jessjess thejumpingsheep • 3 days ago
Yes, but they could have told her she could wait in the waiting room. Unless they did, and she didn't want to and resisted... That is the only way I would understand them having her escorted.

Handcuffed escort out of hospital? Yes more details needed.

I hope they get 30 million from that hospital.

thejumpingsheep newsstarr • 3 days ago
They didnt cause her condition. And it sounds like she aggravated the issue and that she overstayed without paying or something like that. Either way, she did it to herself. Hospitals are not free hotels even if some people use them that way.

Kendall Powers thejumpingsheep • 3 days ago
Oh my goodness, where to start? While iatrogenic deaths are quite common, nobody is saying the hospital "caused her condition." She was still suffering and got taken out in handcuffs, when she clearly needed more medical treatment. But yeah, you get her! Tell that bum not to use the hospital as a hotel! Oh wait... she's dead. Go get 'em, tiger.
